Blonde woman-window- Derek Lam Polka Dot Dress

Summer is sadly coming to an end. We’ve started putting aside our sandals and swimsuits and are mentally preparing ourselves for long sleeves and leggings. But, no need to frown at the upcoming fall weather as there are some amazing trends this season that will keep that summer smile rolling into the fall. Trending hard are prints, and the treasured and timeless polka dot is included. I have learned to love polka dots and what I really love about them at the moment is that they are the perfect transition print from summer to fall.

For ages, I deemed the polished and pretty print only appropriate on little girls. Polka dots always seemed childish to me, or overly girly. But, with time and research, I have learned to love and respect them for what they truly are: feminine, sophisticated, and a print appropriate for almost any occasion. This season polka dot prints are in dresses and tops that are light and airy enough to survive the last of the heat, but bold enough to take us to the fall.

I found this dress by Derek Lam and thought it would work in so many situations. I could picture myself in it with flats (or even an all-white chic sneaker) as I was running errands during the still humid weeks. I could see myself in it with a cute leather coat and ankle bootie at a football tailgate get-together. And here, I saw myself out for end of summer cocktails with friends, choosing to add a strappy heel and a pop of a not-so-summery color. The dress is transversal, but more importantly, so is the print.

While polka dots are on trend right now, I would be ready to see more of them this fall and even into the winter months. They have established themselves in the same category as leopard print and pearl embellishments – love or hate them; they are never going out of style. 🖤
