What is it about spring that puts such a … spring in my step? I think it’s the stress of the holidays officially being over, the summer vacation planning in full effect and the weather (at least in South Florida where I live) turning the corner. For my readers in the Northeast reading this and rolling your eyes at my warm weather lifestyle, don’t worry you’ll be shedding those layers so soon! For the first time this year, it feels like spring is at my doorstep and I’m taking in every minute of it.
The (almost) arrival of spring also means my calendar goes from holiday festive to personal driver for the kid’s endless events, errand running ninja, and overall COO of our household. Tight clothes and high heels take a break this time of year – at least during the day. It’s time to create outfits that transition, not just from winter to spring, but also from morning meetings to after-school activities.
My 2019 spring style can be defined as comfortable, feminine and versatile. I’m gravitating towards looks that can be mixed and matched, that go from one event to the next and that feel effortless. This outfit depicts my spring style perfectly. I mean, does it get any more effortless than a comfy sweatshirt? This Saint Laurent cheery, pink top is just so easy to throw on and feel simultaneously comfortable and pulled together. It goes from morning carpool to girlfriend lunch date and afternoon client meeting and back again.
For spring, I wanted to take this top and give it a feminine touch, so I added these Derek Lam shorts. First of all, who doesn’t adore a bright white short? They always “up” the game. But what I really love about the shorts is the front bow. It adds just the right amount of feminine to soften the look and take it from “ballpark chic” to “resort lunch date.”
Strategically adding a pattern to any outfit, especially for spring, gives it an intentional pop. For my go-to spring look, this Chanel bag is so perfect, it has the bright and playful color palette that I wanted, but because it’s a clutch style, it automatically elevates the look. Bonus: the bag is actually big enough to carry my necessary things! The Chanel flats are incredibly comfortable and, as long as I can keep my kids from spilling juice on them (only slightly joking), they stay pretty white with proper care.
Finding a pair of “cool” white sunglasses can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. When I came across these Miu Miu shades, it was love at first sight. They give an outfit that perfect hint of sass that I feel when I ask my daughter about her day at school (“Mom, it was just like yesterday…”). For this particular outfit, these sunglasses were the perfect finishing touch, and I can’t wait to style them with other looks.
Even if you’re still bundled up in layers and praying that the weather angels send you warm rays of sunshine, I promise spring will be here before you know it. Start planning your spring wardrobe now and don’t forget to mix in a few comfortable, chic and oh-so-cheery looks to match the sunny weather! Xx…
