Gaga for Gloves
Where does your mind go when you think about a stylish pair of gloves? Are you in head-to-toe black, channeling a classic Audrey Hepburn? Or are you in distressed jeans and a leather coat, feeling a cool James Dean? Or maybe, you are feminine and flirty, looking like a flouncy Daisy Buchanan. No matter the idea or the icon, gloves are a unique accessory that add character, charm, and charisma. That’s why I’m currently going gaga for gloves.
For so long, I attached gloves to cold weather. And, if they weren’t reserved for cold weather, they were destined for black-tie parties. SO wrong. Some of the greatest fashionistas of all time have incorporated gloves with no climate or dress code involved. Gloves are a true statement accessory that have more character than a bling belt, dangle earring or haute headband combined. Why? Because so few people have the courage and confidence to pull them off.
Madonna could be one of the most powerful, bold women ever. Not only is her voice incredible and her style legendary, she never strayed from who she was … In a time of fashion confusion (otherwise known as the 80’s), she was true to her own style. No one from our generation will ever forget her gloves. They could have been mesh, lace, leather but they were always there. They completed a persona that already gave women a path for individuality and success.
So how can you and I – non-pop music icons – incorporate gloves into our everyday style? …Because let’s be honest, we aren’t pulling them off at the Kindergarten Character Parade… I believe you make them occasional. Have a special night planned with your loved one? Chose a classy elbow length pair that complement, not compete, with your dress. Going for lunch alfresco with the girls? Find a delicate, lacy pair that travel halfway to your elbow. Old school concert with some couple friends? Yup, rock a leather pair that look like driving gloves to finish off your casual outfit.

This season's gloves from Gucci have brought excitement to my very old-soul. They bring me back to the Gatsby era when ladies dressed to the nines for any and every occasion. I found this pair a month or so back and daydreamed how and where I would wear them. This outfit could be a day at the Wellington Polo Club or a fundraiser luncheon at The Breakers. The gloves give it a boost of feminine flair that takes you from stylish to stand out.
So maybe you’ve read this and still think gloves are out of your comfort zone. And that’s okay, but keep an open mind. They will never go out of style, and I think we will see more of them this spring. If you do dare, have some fun with them. They are sassy and sweet at the same time, which is a dream statement to any confident woman’s ears…🖤
