Making An Impression In Cobalt
I’ve always been drawn to cobalt blue. Not just in my clothing, either. I love it throughout my home and particularly my kitchen in glassware and china. There’s something about this deep, rich color that instantly feels special and intentional. The color goes back to 1777, when it was first named cobalt in English and considered its own color. It became a pigment in painting in 1802 and was embraced by the likes of Monet and van Gogh. So it’s no wonder I feel like a work of art when I wear cobalt blue. Don’t laugh – I’m NOT comparing myself to a work of art! I just love the history of the color, and it always feels special when I wear it.
When I received this gorgeous Kinslie dress from Ramy Brook, the stunning pigmentation grabbed my eye the moment I opened the packaged. The juxtaposition of the elevated, flowing fabric combined with the daring front (and back) plunge was so well done. The color couldn’t be more saturated, and the billowy sleeves make me want to spin around! I can see wearing this to a girls’ weekend escape and a summer cocktail party. A quick change of the bag, jewelry, and shoes and you have a completely different look. The shade also compliments an incredible range of skin tones which makes it even more of a designer’s darling.
For this daytime look, I styled it with white accessories from top to bottom. It would work equally well with metallics for a more elevated, evening style. This straw-based Prada bag is amazing and has just the right amount of leather detailing. I chose a pair of coordinating Gianvito Rossi heels to create a beautiful, resort-style outfit. Since the white popped so nicely with the bag and shoes, I chose these flower drop earrings by Oscar de la Renta to give it an eye-friendly finishing touch. These earrings come in all different colors and can elevate a look at the drop of a hat. They should be an essential in your closet for spring to summer accessorizing.
Looking ahead at this year’s Spring and Summer collections, I’m also loving these pieces in cobalt:
Cobalt shouldn’t just be saved for accessories or your favorite stemware. The color is rich in history and style. This spring and summer choose one or two cobalt pieces and style them from day to night and back again. 🖤
