Summer is wrapping up for most of the country (not so much here in South Florida), and it’s time to give our hair a little seasonal lift. I was reading this piece in Well+Good about cleaning your hairbrushes. Ew, but also…necessary. And I decided to create my own pre-fall hair prep routine. After all, sweater weather is better weather.
ONE. GIVE YOUR HAIR TIES A REST

In the summer, I spend a lot of time with my hair pulled up because of the heat and humidity. It’s also a great way to show off my shoulders in my summertime strapless and spaghetti strap tops! Fall is the time to give your hair a break from the pulling, tugging, and damage that hair ties can cause
TWO. GET A TRIM
In the summer, your hair takes a beating between water damage from pools and oceans to sun damage. Yes, the sun damages your hair. Go ahead and get a healthy trim going into fall. Those heavier, fresh ends will look so chic with your November looks!
THREE. LOAD UP ON THE MOISTURIZER

See above. Your hair has been through a lot. Go ahead and do a deep conditioning mask once or twice a week. I love Karastese’s Resistance Hair Masque Extentioniste Treatment for long, damaged hair.
FOUR. CHANGE UP YOUR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Are you in a hair care rut? Try a new shampoo and conditioner to give your locks a fresh vibe. My go-to? Oribe’s Signature Shampoo & Conditioner.

FIVE. GIVE YOUR HOT TOOLS A REST
You might have overused your hot tools this summer in an attempt to hold a curl or flatten frizzy tresses. Try big foam rollers in fall to add dimension and body without the heat.
Here’s to a season of gorgeous, shiny hair, Pumpkin Spice lattes and leather booties!
